Where the future lives!

Looming over the Financial District of Dubai, the Museum of the Future is a mosaic of elements from imagination to reality. Designed by the local architectural firm Killa Design, the futuristic shape of the museum is a ‘torus’ with an elliptical void. The solid part represents the knowledge we have today and the void represents the future. Termed as one of the complex structures ever attempted, it comprises a framework of 2,400 intersecting steel that is a diagrid. With millimetric alterations and parametric scripting, this 3D model is a 77-meter high building consisting of seven stories. Based on the algorithm, it is a structure without a pillar.

Offering its visitors an opportunity to explore future trends, the seven stories are dedicated to different exhibition spaces namely, technological research, health-care research, and science.  Also, three floors have been curated to make them seem like a future film set, and the last floor is devoted to children exploring, solving problems, and becoming ‘future heroes’. With thought-provoking material supplemented by this marvelous museum, it also provides an impressive experience of futuristic technological advancements. Aiming for a LEED Platinum certification, it is equipped with greywater recycling systems, regenerative drive lifts, while power is obtained through photovoltaic solar arrays. Conceived as the elongated vertical ring shape place, the stainless steel façade of the museum is adorned with phrases of poetry written by the Prime Minister of Dubai in the Arabic Calligraphy by artist Mattar Bin Lahej.

Furthermore, its design and functionalities are guided by ‘Sustainability’.The BIM environment providing sustainable designs results in energy savings of up to 25%. With a smart irrigation system installed, that uses sensors, wastage of water is reduced to 45%. This low-carbon building is also illuminated by 14 km of lead lightning after dark. Set to attract millions of people, the tickets cost around Dh 145.

This beauty of a kind testifies that the future belongs to those who can imagine it to execute it!
