Continuing its line of novel tiny houses, France’s Optinid brings forth a residence with a striking feature of ‘Sliding Sunroof’, exposing its residents to outdoor fun. Named after its owner, it is aesthetically built on a double-axed trailer clad in Douglas fir siding, with black polycarbonate accenting. Measuring 6m (19.6 ft.) long with a width of 2.5m (8.3 ft.) and a height of 4m (13 ft.), its interior has a total floor space of 20.4sq m (219 sq. ft.). Opening up to a living room on the ground floor, a soft bed with storage underneath accommodates two people. Above this is a secondary loft bedroom reachable by a ladder that enables a person to sleep. Adjacent to the living room, a small home office with a desk, joined to the storage-integrated staircase, leads up to the bathroom.
Furthermore, in the kitchen, a pull-out table and a sink with a fridge on the counter are placed. A two-burner stove is tucked away somewhere for cooking. Featuring an electric 1,000 W underfloor heating system, it gets power from a standard RV-style hookup and insulation from recycled clothing, keeping the space comfortable in winters. The house also collects rainwater which is pumped and filtered for drinking through the solar panel array.
The innovative feature of the sliding sunroof allows fresh air in and gazing at stars at night while lying in bed. Optinids roof can be unlocked and slid open on rails, suiting the weather. It has an improved mechanism and is much smaller and lighter. Weighing around 3,290 kg (7,253 lb.), it is relatively light. Indeed a unique artistic home that not just defines functionality but is also aesthetically pleasing.
